Puzzle Pirates on Steam

September 1st, 2011

Today Puzzle Pirates was released on Steam Store. It has slight differences to the usual Puzzle Pirate client, the main one is that it uses your Steam account credentials and does not ask for username and password which means that you are unable to login with your existing account and must create a new green pirate. It seems to be targetting new players rather than convert the existing to Steam.

In order to buy Doubloons all payments have to be processed through Steam. The cost is the same though with the Rogue Mark and other rewards.

When you start your new pirate you will receive a StARRter badge and Skeletal amulet both will only last 5 days. The StARRter badge is a combination of Pirate Badge and Parlor badge. Both are not tradable.

For existing players there is no incentive to switch to the Steam version, but for an alt it may be useful to get 5 free days of Parlor games.

Quotes and Advertising removal

June 4th, 2011

I have been working to add a new quotes database at http://quotes.puzzlepiracy.com/, it would be good to see some of the funny quotes from in game appearing there. It will be moderated so quotes won’t appear immediately, quotes of a advertising nature, gibberish and offensive nature will not be published. Quotes can be flagged for review, grounds for removal are quotes intended to be personal, offensive or fakes.

Puzzle Piracy has past the one year mark. I continue to be a fan of Puzzle Pirates and still actively play. Despite its simple graphics there are layers of Politics and Finance in the game that make it continually interesting.

Advertising on the site made a total of $1.26 over the year and expenses totalled $127.35. For all its trouble it isn’t worth having. As of the latest update there will be no further Banner advertising on the site. I may look in to one of the “chip in” donation services for nice generous people to be able to help out but everyone can help by visiting the site, using the resources here and posting about Puzzle Pirates related information and discussion.

Vikings attack

February 18th, 2011

New expeditions have been added to the hall of explorers where you go to an output and defend from Viking attacks.

Everyone mans a cannon and fires upon the attacking longships and when the Vikings land a fray determines the success of the expedition.

Also added were Viking trinkets and some other Viking themed items.

Voyages to the Haunted Seas

August 27th, 2010

Yesterday the Haunted Seas Sea monster hunt arrived on all servers, where you sink ghost ships and raid Ship Graveyards and maybe fight Barnabas there also.

There seems to be more money especially if you have half decent sword fighters which can team for doing Shipyards. But they do not have chests to Treasure Haul so less chance of good items.

Few minor changes as well with the release and a few updates as well followed to fix bugs, one was Treasure Haul Expeditions.

Puzzle Pirates June update

June 30th, 2010

Here is a summary of noticable changes to Puzzle Pirates in the latest update:

  • New ship Junk with an asian theme
  • New swords Katana and Dadao
  • Swabbie can now be ordered to gun, which may be handy on solo or greeter pillages.
  • Extra swabbie on Cutters
  • Battle Navigation skill standings gets a change to make Ultimate possible.

Introducing Blockade Board

June 26th, 2010

Blockade Board is a user updated summary of scheduled blockades to help the soldiers of fortune amongst us plan the weekend making some pirate wealth as a mercenary.

It is not automatically updated from the Puzzle Pirates scheduled Blockades, but gives a summary of blockades accross all oceans.

It is also handy for blockading flags to advertise across oceans for jobbers.

Pirate Auctions House migrated

June 16th, 2010

I have migrated Pirate Auction House to the new Puzzle Piracy site. This required the update of theme and integration with Forums login.

The changes means that all user accounts from the old Pirate Auction House will no longer work. Registration of user accounts will be handled by the Forum: http://forums.puzzlepiracy.com/ucp.php?mode=register

Still to be done likely tomorrow, is to redirect the old site at pirateah.dreamhosters.com to auctions.puzzlepiracy.com and to post a link to the new support forum at the old support forum.
